Day 2: Thursday, September 18

8:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.

Bio: David Eagleman is a world-renowned neuroscientist, bestselling author, and entrepreneur known for making the mysteries of the brain both accessible and inspiring. As host of the top-rated podcast Inner Cosmos and creator of PBS’s The Brain and Netflix’s The Creative Brain, he explores how our brains shape who we are—and how we can harness that knowledge to thrive in a rapidly evolving world. Through his company Neosensory, David is pioneering sensory substitution technologies that help people hear and see through touch. His books, including Livewired, Incognito, and The Runaway Species, delve into brain plasticity, creativity, and the unconscious mind. He’s been named Science Educator of the Year, served as a scientific advisor on HBO’s Westworld, and written for The New York Times, The Atlantic, and Wired. The New York Times called him “the kind of guy who really does make being a neuroscientist look like fun.”

The Secret Lives of the Brain

If the conscious mind—the part you consider you—accounts for only a fraction of the brain's function, what is all the rest doing? Stanford neuroscientist David Eagleman (host of the #1 science podcast Inner Cosmos) takes us into the depths of the unconscious to answer some of our deepest mysteries. What is the brain really up to behind the scenes? How do you land on your decisions? How can we outsmart our own circuitry to make better long-term plans? What do Ulysses and facility managers have in common? Eagleman helps us understand how our perceptions of ourselves and our world result from the hidden workings of the most wondrous and complex thing we have discovered in the universe: the human brain.
