AI in FM Boot Camp: Hands-On Implementation for the Agentic Era
Most facility managers have tried ChatGPT, Copilot, or another AI tool. Far fewer are using AI in ways that meaningfully change how they do their job. This 4-hour, hands-on workshop at IFMA’s World Workplace is built to close that gap. We’ll spend the bulk of our time on the practical, daily AI applications that produce real value for FMs (data analysis, document review, SOW development, communications, building business cases) using your own data on your own laptop. From there, we’ll walk through how to build a custom AI assistant tailored to your organization, and close with an honest look at where agentic AI is heading. You’ll leave with prompts, templates, a custom AI assistant you built yourself, and a clear sense of what to do Monday morning.
COURSE SPEAKERS:
- We’ll cover the prompting, workflows, and habits that separate “I tried it once” from real productivity gains. This is the core of the workshop.
- Bring your own (non-sensitive) work order logs, cost data, vendor proposals, or reports. You’ll do actual analysis, not watch slides.
- SOW drafting and review, RFP responses, occupant communications, leadership reporting, and email/meeting management.
- Create your own AI tool (Custom GPT, Claude Project, Copilot agent, or Gemini Gem) loaded with your organization’s standards and reference materials, so the AI gets smarter every time someone on your team uses it.
- Dive into agentic AI. We’ll explain what it is, what’s emerging in the FM space, live examples of agents in action, and help you create your own AI agent.
- Understand the differences between ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Microsoft 365 Copilot, and identify which tools fit which FM tasks.
- Use AI confidently for data analysis, document review, writing, and communications, with prompting techniques that consistently produce useful output.
- Gain proficiency in using AI to draft and review SOWs for janitorial, elevator maintenance, furniture procurement, and other contracts, plus the leadership reports and business cases that justify your work.
- Recognize what AI agents are, where they're showing up in FM (including in your CMMS, IWMS, and building automation roadmaps), and what to pilot now versus monitor for later.
This workshop is built for facility managers at all levels who want to move beyond casual AI experimentation and into real, daily, value-generating use. Whether you've never opened ChatGPT or you've been using it for a year and want to level up, you'll find practical tools and a clear path forward.
Attendees should bring their own laptops and a paid subscription to at least one major AI platform (ChatGPT Plus, Claude Pro, Gemini Advanced, or Microsoft 365 Copilot all work). We recommend using whichever your organization has standardized on, since that's where you'll do real work. Attendees will be contacted prior to the event to identify specific use cases they want to see covered.
