Getting Around ​San Diego

IFMA’s World Workplace 2016 will be held at the San Diego Convention Center (SDCC), 111 W. Harbor Drive, San Diego, California 92101, USA.

San Diego’s Transit System

City Bus Public transit is available to and from the airport and downtown San Diego on the Metropolitan Transit System's Route 992, which stops at Terminals 1 and 2, and operates between 5:00 a.m. and 11:30 p.m., every 15 minutes on weekdays, and every 30 minutes on weekends and holidays.

Airport Shared Shuttles

Shared vans (commuter shuttles) operate regularly from San Diego International Airport. Shuttle service is available at the Transportation Plazas across from Terminals 1 and 2, and curbside at the Commuter Terminal. From Terminal 1 you must cross the skybridge and take either the escalators or the elevators to street level. From Terminal 2, use the pedestrian crosswalk conveniently located outside the Terminal 2 Baggage Claim Area to access the Transportation Plaza. A Transportation Coordinator will place you with the first available shuttle, unless you specify a particular shuttle company. Contact the shuttle provider of your choice to arrange transportation service.

Airport Taxis

Taxis provide service to the San Diego metro area and surrounding counties. Check with your cab company of choice (or with your driver at the airport) for more information on fares and destinations served. The following popular destinations have approximate charges:

Automobile Rental

San Diego International Airport has more than 10 major rental car companies serving San Diego travelers. Car rental agencies are located at the Rental Car Center, the airport provides courtesy shuttles service to and from all terminals. 

Public Transportation

Easy, inexpensive and convenient, San Diego’s trolley, bus service, water taxis or bikes will take you almost anywhere in the city. San Diego offers many modes of public transportation providing travelers with economical and eco-friendly options to explore the region. Hop on board!

The Free Ride

Free Ride is an easy, free transportation service in Downtown San Diego. The service is fun, easy and free. We use electric cars to cut out the cost of fuel and work with some great sponsors make the service possible. ​Download the app to catch a ride. 

Riding the Bus

There are plenty of lines and routes that are serviced throughout San Diego. Be sure to check timetables and schedules, and plan your routes in advance.

Riding the Red Trolley

If you're staying in or around downtown San Diego, Mission Valley or just east of the city, the iconic bright red trolley is a great choice. The San Diego Trolley provides convenient services from key locations including the Santa Fe Depot and the San Diego Convention Center, crisscrossing through downtown and out to Old Town, Mission Valley, El Cajon and Santee.

There are three trolley lines (Blue, Orange and Green) that service the downtown San Diego communities and beyond, covering 51 miles of track, and 53 stations total. Fares run from $1.50 to $3 one-way. Trolleys run an average of every 15 minutes, 7 minutes during peak and 30 minutes during off-peak hours.

Amtrak

Located in downtown San Diego on Kettner Blvd and Broadway, the Santa Fe Depot is the main hub for Amtrak, providing various coastal train services from downtown San Diego to Oceanside and beyond.

There are plenty of connecting services from the Oceanside station, including the Sprinter inland rail that can take you out east to Escondido. You may also ride the Pacific Surfliner train from San Diego to Solana Beach and Oceanside plus Anaheim, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo and many places in between.

Ferry, Water Taxi & Decobike

Coronado Ferry

Owned and operated by Flagship Cruises & Events, this passenger ferry runs regularly across San Diego Bay, between the Broadway Pier and the Convention Center in downtown San Diego and the Coronado Ferry Landing. A 15-minute ride takes you one way, and is one of the most efficient modes of transportation while providing gorgeous views of the downtown skyline and the Coronado Bridge.

San Diego Water Taxi

Offers on-call transportation services in San Diego Bay Friday through Sunday. Service runs between Downtown and Coronado, where you can relax and enjoy the scenery and beautiful downtown skylines from the water. Hop serenely from place to place conveniently from your hotel to nearby shopping centers and restaurants.

DecoBike

DecoBike is San Diego's only citywide bike share, operated in partnership with the City of San Diego, with over 170 solar-powered bike sharing stations and more than 1,700 bicycles. There are two ways to rent a DecoBike bicycle. You can sign up for an annual or monthly membership online or rent a bike at the station for a short term casual ride.
