IFMA Foundation On-site Events

The IFMA Foundation and its supporters view academics and research as critical strategies in enhancing the FM profession. Through your participation in Foundation activities at World Workplace, you make a significant contribution to programs that promote higher FM education, provide scholarships to FM students and support research critical to the FM profession.

Help us make FM a career of choice

The IFMA Foundation relies entirely on private funding to carry out its mission. Add Tuesday’s events to your registration — proceeds fund the good works of the Foundation, including student scholarships, the Accredited Degree Program, the Global Workforce Initiative and more.

FM Academic Awards

Thursday, Oct. 8 | 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.
Colorado Convention Center

All registered attendees, exhibitors, sponsors and speakers are invited to attend — see first-hand what the IFMA Foundation accomplishes with your contributions. Congratulate students and academic institutions that have demonstrated significant achievements in the following areas:

  • Scholarship: Since 1991, the Foundation has awarded more than US$1.1 million to hundreds of aspiring FM professionals. In 2014, the Foundation awarded US$140,000 in scholarships and conference travel grants to more than 37 students.
  • International Student of the Year: Each outstanding student nominated for ISY has not only achieved superior academic success, but has also demonstrated proficiency in leadership and FM activities.
  • ePoster Competition: FM-related projects, activities and research work presented by FM students.
  • Accredited Degree Program (ADP): The ADP assures current and prospective students, potential employers and parents that accredited FM degrees meet the rigorous academic standard for quality, subject content and student outcome requirements. Accreditation is awarded at the associate degree (two-year), bachelor’s degree (four-year) and graduate degree levels.

Academic & Research Session Track

The A&R session track features academic research on FM worldwide, as well as special presentations in the IFMA Foundation Donor Lounge, such as everything you ever wanted to know about the Accredited Degree Program. Find these sessions online using the search function on the Education page.

ePoster Competition

Thursday, Oct. 8 | 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.
Colorado Convention Center | Room 303

Students studying in facility management programs or enrolled in Accredited Degree Programs will present FM-related projects and research work, share internship experiences and other activities in this high-profile competition. Winners qualify for gratis admission to next year's World Workplace.

Following the ePoster Competition, the Foundation will host an FM Student Roundtable discussion. All students studying FM and related areas, scholarship winners, ePoster and ISY students are invited to attend. The event is from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., and will focus on networking and discussions on various student topics.

FM Student Internship Information Session

Friday, Oct. 9 | 9:30 a.m. – 11 a.m.
Colorado Convention Center | Room 303

Interest in FM student internships/co-ops has escalated among hiring companies, academic institutions and students. This session will unite these three stakeholders (industry, institution and individual) to discuss what makes an internship/co-op program successful. Examples, best practices and lessons learned will be presented.

The institution is the lead stakeholder in this effort. If the internship is a required course within an FM program, it needs to be developed and structured like any other required course, including criteria, syllabus, assessments/grading, outcomes, etc. The student is responsible for meeting program requirements; but the academic institution must ensure that the company’s internship program meets course expectations. If not, the student risks failing the course.

Whether you’re interested in offering or participating in an internship program, this session will provide valuable tips and guidance.

VIP Donor Lounge

Oct. 7-9
Colorado Convention Center | Room 303

Those who have made substantial contributions to the Foundation this past year are invited to learn more about the programs being funded. Meet members of the board and staff, and students and young professionals benefitting from scholarships and awards. An informational session will be offered to IFMA chapters and councils interested in learning more about the Global Workforce Initiative.
