About this Award

The Council of the Year Award is presented to the IFMA council that has excelled in newsletter publishing, communication, membership marketing and educational programming. This award will be presented to the council that has best provided networking opportunities and contributed to the education and information exchange of its members. The council will be reviewed on fiscal responsibility and the ability to communicate industry-specific information to the membership. The judging panel will consist of an IFMA staff person and four IFMA champions.

Eligibility:
All councils in good standing with IFMA are eligible to submit a nomination.

Criteria & Scoring

Judges score entries based on the following criteria and point guidance. Learn more »

  1. What has been the most successful strategy for membership marketing? Describe in quantifiable terms how this strategy has strengthened the council. How is this strategy tied into the council’s strategic plan? (0-20 pts.)
  2. What strategy does the council employ to retain its members? What feedback instrument is used to measure satisfaction? Describe in quantifiable terms how this strategy has strengthened the council. How is this strategy tied into the council’s strategic plan? (0-20 pts.)
  3. How does the council contribute to the professional development of its members? Discuss any conferences, programs, research projects, electronic information exchanges and/or promotion of the CFM/FMP/SFP designations. How is this strategy for professional development tied into the council’s strategic plan? (0-10 pts.)
  4. How does the nominee council support the goals of IFMA in general? Are donations made to the IFMA Foundation or scholarship funds? How does the council focus its charitable giving so that it meets their mission and advances the facility management profession? Are sponsorships accepted and how are they utilized? (0-10 pts.)
  5. Discuss council communications. How is important information disseminated to members? Include information about newsletters, online communities, Web sites and any other forms of outreach. How is the strategy for communications tied into the council’s strategic plan? (0-10 pts.)
  6. How has the council tied its strategic plan to IFMA’s strategic plan? What are the council’s vision and mission? How has buy-in by the council membership been achieved? (0-10 pts.)
  7. What is the strategy for succession planning? How are future council leaders identified, engaged and prepared? (0-10 pts.)
  8. What makes the nominee council especially worthy of receiving the Council of the Year Award? (0-20 pts.)

Additional Information

Specific requirements for the Council Award of Excellence in Communications:

  • Nominator must be an IFMA member in good standing (dues current).
  • Council must be recertified for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2013.

  • Nominations are scored on content only, not creative presentation of the submission.
  • The submission covers activities from May 1, 2012 to April 30, 2013.
